Requirements:

60g DK yarn

4mm needles

3 small buttons

 

Measurements:

Width:                               17”  (43cm)

Length:                             9 “ (23cm)

Sleeve length:                   5” (13cm)

 

Instructions:


Begin with the Sleeves (work 2)

Cast on 22sts      

Knit 6 rows

**

7th Row:        S1, knit to end

8th Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1

9th Row:        S1, kfb, knit to last 3sts, kfb, k2                        (24sts)         

10th Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

11th Row:      S1, knit to end

12th Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

13th Row:      S1, knit to end

14th Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1    **

Repeat from ** to ** three times more                                   (30sts)

39th Row:      S1, knit to end

40th Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

The sleeve should now measure about 5” (it is easy to adjust the length here)

Next Row:  Cast off 3sts, knit to last 3sts, cast off 3sts           (24sts)

Leave these 24 stitches on a spare needle, or stitch holder

 

Work the Main Part

Cast on 93sts

Knit 6 rows

Now work in pattern ~

Row 1:                    S1, k4, * k2tog, k2, kfb, kfb, k3, s1, k1, psso, k1, repeat from * to last 4sts, k4

Row 2:                    S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

Repeat the last 2 rows twice more

Rows 7 – 10:           S1, knit to end

The last 10 rows form the pattern

Repeat these 10 pattern rows twice more

Row 37:                  S1, k4, * k2tog, k2, kfb, kfb, k3, s1, k1, psso, k1, repeat from * to last 4sts, k4

Row 38:                  S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

Repeat the last 2 rows twice more

43rd Row:      S1, knit 21sts, cast off 6sts, knit 36sts, cast off 6sts, k21sts

44th Row:      S1, k3, p18, purl across 24sts from the first sleeve, purl 37sts from the back, purl 24sts from the second sleeve, purl 18sts from left front, k5                        (129sts)

 
Work the Yoke

1st Row:        S1, k2tog, yrn, k1, (makes a buttonhole), knit to end

2nd Row:       S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

3rd Row:        S1, k19, k2tog, s1, k1, psso, k20, k2tog, s1, k1, psso, k33, k2tog, s1, k1, psso, k20, k2tog, s1, k1, psso, k20                  (121sts)

4th Row:        S1, k3, purl to last 4sts, k4

Sew up the sleeve and underarm seams.  Darn away ends.  Add 3 little buttons

  1. I really do prefer top-down sweaters, but at least this one joins the sleeves to the body so there are not pieces to be sewn together at the end.
