Melika Lacy Baby Vest Top with side buttons

This cute little baby top was inspired by a photo of a beautiful Turkish knitted baby vest.
It is knitted all in one piece and there are no seams
- perfect for those who hate sewing up!

I have called this design Melika ~ which means beauty in Turkish.
Melika Lacy Baby Vest Top with side buttons - Small
Melika Lacy Baby Vest Top with side buttons - Large

This design begins at the lower front edge. The front is knitted first, then continued down the back.
The cast off finishes the lower back edge.
This pattern design is especially for maryann in Durban, South Africa as a thank you for her continued and much valued support.

    1. Thanks Ana. I thought this design needed a Turkish name as the shape is based on a Turkish pattern.
And I loved seeing your version of my Rosebud Crochet Jacket - very pretty. Very best wishes. Marianna X

    1. I am glad you like this design - the shape is a little bit unusual - and it looks good in the lacy stitch or in stocking stitch, especially in a self patterning yarn.

  6. Hi Marianna, is it something I'm doing wrong or .. after cutting the yarn and joining the yarn to the remaining 21 sts, should all of the following [ yo, s1, k1, psso's ] be .. yo, s1, k2tog, psso's? Unless you're k2tog there you'll end up with too many stiches in the row. :)

    2. I've just finished this design in stocking stitch in a solid pink color. it turned out beautifully. Thank you so much for your patterns. You are indeed blessed with creativity. I plan on not only selling the items , but also will become a volunteer knitter for a local hospital. Every newborn and preemie should go home with something special as they begin their lives. Thank you again for your generous spirit.

  9. I'm having a problem with repeating row13. When I start the row the yon , sl 1 k2tg,psso yon match up with row 9,but if I continue with the pattern, they don't line up and I have 6 k2tg psso instead of 7 k2tg psso. What did I do wrong and can you help?Thank you for your time. love the patterns.

    1. Just had a look at the instructions Susan - and I can't see a problem. So - I think you must have missed some yon.s on row 9. There is a yon before and after every (s1, k2tog, psso). The number of stitches remains the same after you have completed each row. Did you start with 41sts? Do you still have 41sts?

  10. I see someone asked if you have the pattern for a 2 year old. I would LOVE to do this for a 4 year old. Any idea how I could adjust it. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks. I have spent the afternoon looking at patterns, but keep coming back to this one

  11. Hi Marianna, something has gone terribly wrong.....I am not an experienced knitter, so please forgive me if i didn't follow correctly. My knitting, (lacy vest for 1 year old) should measure 32cms from shoulder down and only measures 25cms. I am knitting with a Sirdar Country Style DK wool and a No 4mm needle. Evidently I knitted less rows, but cannot see where. It is such a beautiful pattern but won't fit.....how disappointing!

    1. Hi Rachel, both these terms mean the same thing. You make an extra stitch by passing the yarn from the front to the back over the needle to make the extra stitch.
