Charlie - Baby Beanie Hat

This easy little baby hat has become very popular !  

And knitted in no time !

Charlie Baby Hat            Preemie Baby 



Size:
Width:    4 ½  “ (11.5cm)   9” (23cm) all around 
Height:   4 ½  “ (11.5cm)

Requires:
DK yarn  ~  around 10g
4mm needles

Pattern:
Cast on 56sts
1st Row:       S1, * k2, p2, rep from * to last 3sts, k3
2nd Row:       S1, * p2, k2, rep from * to last 3sts, p2, k1
Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times more
9th Row:       S1, knit across row
10th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k1
11th Row:     S1, k2, * p2, k2, rep from * to last st, k1
12th Row:     S1, * p2, k2, rep from * to last 3sts, p2, k1
13th Row:     S1, knit across row
14th Row:     S1, purl to last st, k
Repeat the last 6 rows twice more, increase 1 stitch at beginning of last row    57sts

Shape the top ~
1st  Row:   (K5, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1            
 49sts
2nd, 4th,6th,8th Rows:         Purl
3rd  Row:   (K4, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1            41sts
5th  Row:   (K3, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1            33sts
7th  Row:   (K2, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1            25sts
9th Row:    (K1, K2 tog) repeat to last st, k1            17sts
10th Row:  (P2 tog) repeat to last st, k1                      9sts


Cut yarn (leaving a long ‘tail’ to use for sewing up), draw the end through all stitches, pull up tightly.
Sew up the seam.  Darn away ends.

Charlie Baby Hat with a Bow

To make a bow ~
Cast on 15sts 
Knit 7 rows
Cast off 
Wrap a length of yarn round the middle 4 or 5 times, and pull tight.
Attach to the hat. Darn away ends.

  6. Thank you so much for your Charlie Beanie hat patterns. The sizes 1-3 yrs and 4-10yrs are my favourite go-to patterns when knitting for charity. I have knitted dozens of them and they always look lovely. The rib look allows for extra growth and is an easy pattern to knit without too much concentration needed with four stocking stitch rows and two 2x2 rib row to make the pattern. I highly recommend. I use 30g for the yrs 1-3 pattern though, rather than the 22-25g in the published pattern. Once again, thank so much, from Anne in New Zealand.
